Invoice Compliance (United States)
Expert review
This invoice format fully aligns with standard U.S. business practice.
Federal law in the United States does not mandate a unified invoice template — what matters is that the document includes the essential details required by accountants, banks, and the IRS for tax reporting.
Key elements already covered in this template:
Header & unique Invoice # clearly displayed.
Issue date and Due date with payment terms (e.g., Net 15/30).
Seller details (Company name, address, EIN / Tax ID).
Buyer details (Bill To: company name and address).
Line items with Description, Qty, Rate, and auto-calculated Amount (Qty × Rate).
Payment instructions: bank name, Routing/Account numbers, ACH/Wire details.
Notes / Terms: payment instructions, PO references, thank-you message.
Note: Sales tax rules are set by states and local jurisdictions. Rates depend on the type of goods/services and where the transaction takes place. Always apply the correct state/local tax rate; consult a U.S. tax advisor if needed.
